Web Developers Create Safari Extensions Using HTML, CSS and JavaScript

Using the latest version of the Safari web browser, which earlier this year was released with a new extensions feature, web developers are creating extensions which extend the features and behavior of Safari–using the core technologies of the web–HTML, CSS and JavaScript.

Extensions are small, downloadable packages that are used by the browser as a method of adding additional functionality to the browser that is not normally included. With the release of Safari 5.0.1, the extensions feature is enabled by default.

While they can provide the end user with some excellent browser functions, extensions also increase the complexity of the browser, adding more toolbar buttons, keyboard shortcuts, contextual-menu commands, which can ultimately affect the way your browser functions–or mis-functions.
