‘Internet of Things’ Hackathon and Accelerator Series Challenges Programmers to Build Mobile Gaming Apps for Multiple Devices

Mountain View, Calif.  – August 12, 2013 – Developer groups, schools and individual participants are invited to participate in four regional “Internet of Things” hackathon and accelerator series, sponsored by AT&T and Intel, at which participants will build mobile gaming apps for multiple devices (mobile, desktop, etc.).

The hackathons will take place in:

  • Palo Alto / Redwood City, Calif. –  Sept. 16
  • New York City –  Sept. 27
  • Denver –  Nov. 1
  • Los Angeles –  Nov. 15

Prizes for the event are:

  • 1st place: $1,000 cash
  • 2nd place: $500 cash
  • 3rd place: $200 cash

First- and second-place finishers also will receive all-expense paid trips to the National Accelerator Demo in Las Vegas, Nev., on Jan. 5, 2014, where they will get the opportunity to pitch their hack and compete for the $20,000 grand prize.

The long-term objective of the hackathon is educational. School projects and school teams are invited to take the creation, not just the consumption, of mobile apps mainstream. Judges from AT&T and Intel will give equal weight to each team’s ability to articulate what the app does, the originality of their idea, and the technical challenges they confronted.

The “Internet of Things” hackathon and mobile app series are competitive events and designed for attendees (technical and non-technical) to build mobile apps, get some great food, and compete for awesome prizes across various categories. Most importantly, the hackathons will introduce the latest, cutting-edge tools to help deploy new apps with website backends and fully hosted in the cloud.

Participants are free to code in any language, whether it’s Objective C, Java, Javascript, HTML, C #, Dot Net or XNA. If participants’ programming skills are rusty, they will have live support from local senior developers and AT&T to help them code that much faster.
