Adobe Wants CSS-Based Magazine Style Layout Standard

Adobe this week proposed a CSS-based web layout standard to the W3C, which is responsible for standardizing Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). Adobe calls their technology CSS Regions.

Arno Gourdol, director of engineering for runtime foundation at Adobe, stated that the proposal “is intended to support sophisticated, magazine-style layouts using CSS.” Magazine style layouts are a core concept in Adobe’s InDesign software, and can be used to create magazine and newspaper style layouts.

By having better standards for web layout, Adobe could enable InDesign users to more easily create a web version of their print entities. This announcement comes directly after an earlier announcement this week from Adobe announcing Wallaby, its Flash to HTML5 tool.
