Adobe has seen the writing on the wall for its Flash Player since Apple rejected the use of the proprietary technology when the iPhone was released. The company has been embracing HTML5 largely because it hasn’t had a choice, and dropped development of its mobile Flash player while releasing Adobe Edge, which uses HTML5, JavaScript and CSS3, and adding HTML5 support to other products.
Many developers have noticed, and are quite happy with the move. Shar Marach, a web developer himself, stated that “With SEO, Flash has always caused problems for websites. If there’s certain content in that Flash element, the search engines don’t pick it up.”
HTML5 support has already been added to Adobe’s Dreamweaver, Fireworks, and Illustrator tools, and Adobe’s PhoneGap and PhoneGap Build are used to create cross-platform mobile apps that use HTML5 and JavaScript.
